Four teenagers have been arrested in Cobb County on charges of robbing cyclists on the Silver Comet trail near Austell, police said.
Three juveniles and 17-year-old Isaac Lee Kemp of Douglasville were charged with aggravated assault and robbery by force, Sgt. Dana Pierce, a Cobb police spokesman said.
The robberies occurred in mid-June on the popular biking and jogging trail near where it passes under Austell Road. Both victims were men — one 49, the other 62 — and were not seriously injured, police said.
Nearly 21 percent of the city of Marietta's 803 employees will receive salary increases totaling $380,000 this week after a study that said their pay was not competitive in the local market.
The city had some evidence of salary dissatisfaction before the study: 108 people left their jobs in the past fiscal year.
The Marietta City Council approved raises for 168 people — including the police chief and fire chief - for this fiscal year. The fiscal year begins July 1.
Cobb County Police Department was awarded third place
International Association of Chiefs of Police (I.A.C.P) Law Enforcement Challenge (06/25/08- Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department was awarded third place in the I.A.C.P. National Law Enforcement Challenge.
The Law Enforcement Challenge is a competition between similar sizes and types of law enforcement agencies. It recognizes and rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in the United States. The areas of concentration include efforts to enforce laws and educate the public about occupant protection, impaired driving, and speeding. Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Bob Dallas presented Chief G.B. Hatfield with the award at Police Headquarters today.

Boy killed at Six Flags Over Georgia
A 17-year-old boy was killed Saturday when he was struck by the popular Batman ride at Six Flags Over Georgia.
According to a statement from the amusement park, the boy climbed over two six-foot fences around the popular Batman roller coaster
"We do not know why this person was intent on gaining access to this restricted area, as multiple signs clearly state: Danger Zone/Do Not Enter/Authorized Personnel Only," the statement from park spokeswoman Hela Sheth.
Sandy Springs police on Wednesday identified two men who were killed in a two-car collision Tuesday on Roswell Road.
Jorge Manuel Diaz, of Smyrna, and Magdeleno Arroyo, of Roswell, both were killed in the accident, said officer Paul Heaton of the Sandy Springs police department.
A preliminary investigation indicates the men's vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle, Heaton said, although the department is continuing its investigation.
Police test scooters to help environment, save fuel
The Marietta Police Department is helping the environment and saving on fuel costs by testing two electric scooters for patrol officers as an alternative to gas-powered patrol cars.
The electric vehicles run for twelve hours on a single battery charge. The vehicle's platform is raised nine inches to increase an officer's visibility, and the open air design allows officers to be more accessible to the public.
For the third time in less than a month, a black bear has died after being struck by a car in Cobb County.
The latest incident happened about 7:15 a.m. Monday, when a bear was hit on Shallowford Road near Trickum Road, in front of Lassiter High School, Cobb police dispatchers said.
The young bear, which weighed about 100 to 125 pounds, was severely injured, and was later euthanized by Cobb authorities, said Melissa Cummings, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Natural Resources.
Three young men are charged with killing 37-year-old man in a late-night attempted robbery.
Cobb police found Ricardo Carbajal shot in the parking lot of the Sodona Falls apartment complex at 1716 Terrell Mill Road just before midnight Friday. Carbajal was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.
Police dispatched a description about the suspects traveling in a gold Ford Crown Victoria. Moments later, police stopped the Ford and took three people into custody.
