I was wondering if anyone can tell me what ended up happening to the young man that hit the tree on december 10th, at around 7:35pm. I was the first person there before the EMT or Police arrived. I would like to know if he is alive or if theres anyway to find out which hospital the young guy went to? As sliced up as my hand is now from ripping his dash board apart trying to kill the ignition (engine was still roaring after it slid into tree), I want to know that it wasn't all in vein.

Thank you

you stopped to help instead of going on by. that makes it not in vain. i think you mean you would like to know if you did enough to help. again you stopped and were there with him and did what you could until the professionals got there.
if he didn't make it-do you really want to know? you may have a tendency to blame yourself for something you had no control over.

i'm not being ugly,i would wonder myself thats human. i'm just not sure if i would want to know. it may be better for you to know you did all you could do and emt's and everyone else did too. this young man was someones son, brother, etc. what you did was not in vain.

i thank you for what you did do.

All I know what he was flown out of there (so probably went to AMC or Grady) and was in pretty bad shape but alive. From the sound of it, had some bystanders not helped out (such as yourself) he wouldn't of had a chance.

Regardless if he makes it or not, just know that you did what you could to give him a chance.

I am a friend of the boy's family. I know that his parents would want to thank you for all of your efforts. They were not in vain. He is at Atlanta Medical Center, and is in stable condition. He has severe injuries, and certainly isn't out of the woods yet, but he is fighting. His name is Jon Wachtel.

I found out about Jon's accident through this website, and I check the updates on the Facebook page every day. I pray for him, and for his incredibly strong family. I am grateful that they keep the site updated with his daily progress - I have (younger, 9 and 5) boys of my own, and this sort of information will help me to educate them as to the dangers inherent in taking on the responsibility of driving (especially to show them that you have to be extra vigilant - you can do nothing wrong and yet things can go bad in an instant). But it also helps others like me who haven't nursed someone who suffered such horrible injuries back to health to understand the time it takes, and the small victories. I applaud his family, and especially his mother. I know it must be a heart-wrenching process.

You can check his progress here: http://www.hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=234104818834&ref=mf

Please pray for this young man - he is getting better every day!
