 | Fire Dept. probing fire that burned down 10 apartments |
The Smyrna Fire Department is continuing to investigate a weekend fire that burned down 10 units at Mission Galleria apartment complex at 5000 Lincoln Trace Ave. off Cobb Parkway near the Galleria Centre.
Smyrna Fire Chief Jason Lanyon said an initial investigation points to an overloaded electrical outlet as the cause of the fire.
No one was reported injured. Lanyon said all the residents were out of the building by the time firefighter, arrived.

 | Woman says prayer stopped assault |
An Austell man has been charged with kidnapping and assault after he forced his way into a neighbor’s home and attacked her, police said.
The woman said he only ceased his assault when she prayed out loud for him to stop.
Anthony Pruitt of 6030 Winter Nest Drive was booked Tuesday night and taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. He is being held without bail.

 | Plane makes emergency landing in North Cobb |
A small plane made an emergency landing on U.S. 41 in North Cobb Monday morning.
The plane landed on the highway and then taxied onto Loring Road, according to Cobb police. The area is near McCollum Field.

 | Scam locks Cobb parents out of graduation |
Some parents of South Cobb High seniors were unable to attend Saturday’s graduation at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta because the sanctuary was filled to capacity.
With up to 80 people using fake tickets to enter, the sanctuary filled up and school officials were forced to turn people away.

 | South Cobb teacher killed in wreck was to wed this summer |
Jay Chapman, the South Cobb High School social studies teacher killed Friday in a head-on collision outside New Orleans, was heading to the city to celebrate his upcoming wedding.
A group of 15 friends, composed of his Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers from University of West Georgia, had planned a golf outing as five of the men are engaged to be married, said Joseph Chapman, Jay’s father.
James M. “Jay” Chapman, 28, and his fiancee Katie Walker, both of Atlanta, planned to marry July 4 in Rome.

 | Woman accused of stealing from dentist employer |
A dentist office employee is accused of stealing more than $65,000 from her former boss by depositing insurance checks into her own bank account.
Teresa Lynn Clark, 40, of Cartersville spent a few hours in jail for allegedly stealing the money from Marietta dentist Jeff Kwan, according to her arrest warrant.
Clark is accused of depositing 92 checks made out to Kwan into her own Bank of America account, according to police. Those checks totaled more than $55,000.

 | Woman left baby in car, then played games, cops say |
A Kennesaw woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon for leaving a 1-year-old child alone in a car while she played video games.
Susan Dianne Betancourt has been charged with child cruelty after leaving the infant in a 2004 Chevrolet Venture for 25 minutes, according to the arrest warrant. She was playing the video game inside a Cherokee Street gas station, Kennesaw police said.

 | Cobb student jailed, suspended for gang fight |
A South Cobb High School student is in jail on $10,000 bond after beating up a 15-year-old as part of an initiation into a street gang.
Julius Andreono Garner, an 18-year-old freshman, was arrested May 13 on charges of disruption of public school, simple battery and a felony violation of the Georgia gang statute. Arrest warrants state that Garner slammed the 15-year-old on the ground, kicked him and punched him several times.
Jay Dillon, a spokesman for the Cobb County School District, said the fight occurred before school started and did not disrupt normal school operations. The victim also was part of a gang, Dillon said.

 | Truck wreck scatters steel beams on I-20 |
All eastbound lanes of I-20 in Cobb County were briefly shut down Friday morning while crews cleared debris from a tractor-trailer wreck.
The two-vehicle crash happened just before 7 a.m. near Riverside Parkway.
A tractor-trailer lost a load of steel beams in the wreck, according to the state Department of Transportation. No serious injuries were reported.

 | Cobb school camera captures indecent act |
A Cobb County high school senior was caught on a school surveillance camera performing an indecent act in front of a 14-year-old female.
Christopher Anthony Wynn, 19, of Powder Springs was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with felony child molestation, according to the arrest warrant.
Wynn is accused of encouraging the girl to fondle him after school ended at McEachern High School on Tuesday.
